Bio in brief...
I am the State Public Health Veterinarian for the State of Ohio.
As the SPHV I serve in a leadership role within the Zoonotic Disease Program at the Ohio Department of Health. In this role, I oversee Ohio's rabies control program and collaborate with other organizations such as USDA-Wildlife Services for the Oral Rabies Vaccination Program, and our state and federal agriculture partners on zoonotic disease cases. In addition to zoonotic disease work, I work intimately on integrating a One Health framework into response plans and facilitate the development of a One Health working group.
Prior to my position as the State Public Health Veterinarian, I worked primarily in agriculture. I was the Disease Programs and Emergency Response Coordinator for the Ohio Department of Health where I coordinated the state's FAD response and planning program, and served on the state's Incident Management Team during HPAI outbreaks.
Additionally, I was an Adel A. Malak scholar while in veterinary school and worked with USDA-FSIS in Washington State as a Supervisory Public Health Veterinarian.
When I have the opportunity, I work clinical medicine on weekends (relief work at vaccination clinics) to keep my skills sharp and give back to the community. I am also certified in veterinary acupuncture (CVA). I used my PC track clerkships to get a lot of experience in different areas (sled dogs, wildlife in Oregon, APHIS-VS CEAH and field-VMO, CDC EEP, etc.), and would love to work with students to show them the flexibility of this track and discuss my career path.
