Dan Stanton, PMP

Dan Stanton joined the faculty in the Department of Population Health Sciences in May 2020. He works primarily with the Center for Public and Corporate Veterinary Medicine (CPCVM), focusing on both product development and project planning as the Center expands nationwide to make training in public and corporate practice available to all veterinary students and veterinarians.
Prior to joining Virginia Tech, Dan worked at Cornell University’s Center for Teaching Innovation, where he coordinated the migration of 25,000 academic courses taught by 1,500 professors from the Blackboard learning management system to the Canvas platform.
He has experience with start-up companies, and was one of the earliest employees at PrecisionHawk LLC (a drone start-up) working as a senior research and development project manager. He held a similar role for SAS Institute, where he worked for 14 years as a senior R&D project manager, guiding the creation of a wide variety of analytical software in the banking, insurance, forecasting, social network analysis, and marketing domains.
Dan started his career at IBM as an industrial engineer, eventually moving into programming and systems application developer roles. He served 3 years as a strategic business case analyst, reporting directly to Tim Cook, the current CEO of Apple.
Dan is a certified project manager (PMP), and holds a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering summa cum laude from Clarkson University.
